Micro Interview: Alice Russell

Posted on: 28th September 2011

We spoke to Body & Soul’s newest patron, singer Alice Russell and put our micro-blog questions to her, and find out that good advice sometimes comes to you at the least likely of times…

Where are you right now?
AR: I’m visiting my family in Suffolk in the countryside, it’s so quiet I can’t sleep!

What inspires you?
AR: Emotion, trying to understand what we are about, what we’re doing here, how we interact together and express ourselves.

What would you say is your greatest achievement?
AR: I am yet to have an achievement I feel is truly great!

What is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?
AR: One woman, a stranger, once came up to me out of the blue in a swimming pool of all places and said “ bad things always come to an end, and good things come to those who wait”. I was a bit dumb struck but it has stayed with me. Any piece of advice that reminds us that there really is just the hear and now, yesterday is gone and tommorow isn’t here yet so chill!

Who do you admire?
AR: People who follow their hearts instead of their heads.

What would your advice be to anyone looking to break into your industry?
AR: Be true to yourself, look after your foundation first and formost, then you will have the freedom you need to express yourself and communicate to others. The industry part of the music world is a difcult one, you can get knocked back by many parts of it. Be strong in what you are doing and the music you are making and believe in.

What’s your favourite quote?
AR: “ We must become the change we want to see.”  Mahatma Gandhi

Which word is the most important to you: smile, trust, love or hope:
AR: Love (and hope..if we are allowed two)but hope, trust and love are so intertwined they should always come as one package!

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
AR: I wouldn’t say no to Brazil on top of a mountain lookin out to sea!
