A special blog post here from Body & Soul’s Chair of Trustees, Alex Lifschutz
“I wanted to share with you some wonderful news about Body & Soul’s Founder and Director Emma Colyer.
The Cabinet Office has just announced that Emma is to be awarded the honour of MBE in this year’s Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Birthday Honours, announced on Saturday 16th June 2012.
The announcement is a recognition of the huge role Emma has played in helping those living with HIV overcome their difficulties and lead productive and joyful lives. Emma founded Body & Soul sixteen years ago and the organisation has flourished under her guidance and dedication. In the words of Lydie, a member at Body & Soul:
‘When I was diagnosed with HIV my world felt like it had fallen apart. Body & Soul has literally been the difference between life and death for me. Through Emma’s passion and the support, love, motivation and knowledge I have received, I have been given hope and an ability to take control of my life. It is fantastic that the impact that Emma has had on our lives has been recognised in this way – she is completely one of a kind.’
We are very proud that in this Diamond Jubilee year, which celebrates service to the British people, Emma’s role in helping those in need has similarly been recognised.
With all good wishes,
Alex Lifschutz on behalf of the Body & Soul Board of Trustees”
Funding and support are at the heart of Body & Soul. The current times we live in make securing the £1.2 million needed every year so much harder. Body & Soul actively encourages people to support however they can; volunteering their time, skills or money to make a difference.”
