Last week, Body & Soul’s Director Emma along with a staff from our partners Red Door Communications, had the pleasure of attending the Lord Mayor’s Dragon Awards at The Mansion House. The Awards aim to recognise outstanding community engagement taking place in London, and Body & Soul was nominated for its partnership with Red Door Communications in the Community Partners category.
Since 2008 Body & Soul, which has never had the resources to implement a communications department, has partnered with Red Door Communications to lead the our communications strategy. Central to this has been RDC’s role in the promotion of ‘Life in My Shoes’ and a series of media training sessions for members aged 16-24 who have taken the difficult decision to speak publicly about their experiences living with HIV.
As a result of this training, three young people have spoken publicly at City Hall, four are starring in films, four have been interviewed for press articles and one is taking part in a Channel 4 documentary. Furthermore, the ‘Life In My Shoes’ campaign has achieved increased press exposure: in 2011 the campaign reached over 12 million people through print, online, television and radio press. On top of this, young people have developed communication skills and confidence – the importance of which we should not underestimate.
We’re excited to annouce this award, which recognises Body & Soul’s good practice and innovative approach and exceptional relationship-building skills with companies that are dedicated to their corporate social responsibility objectives. We aim to excel in all that we do, and are proud to add this award to our (growing) shelf.
