We are delighted to announce that Body & Soul has been awarded The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award. This one-off version of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is extremely prestigious and has been given to 60 voluntary organistions in recognition of the inspirational work of volunteers in the UK.
To be recognised in The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year, a decade after being awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award, means so much to the organisation, that our consistant dedication to both the volunteering ethos at the heart of Body & Soul and to supporting children, teenagers and families living with HIV in the UK has been recognised again. There can be no doubt that following the London Olympics and Paralympics, 2012 has been the Year of the Volunteer, and we are so pleased to see that the thousands of individuals all over the UK who give up their time to make life better for others have been recognised publicly.
The chair of the awards committee, Martyn Lewis said: ‘The 60 organisations have built their success on the dedication and generosity of thousands of extraordinary people, each of whom has devoted their time and energy to the simple aim of making their communities – and their country – a better place. Day-in, day-out volunteers are making a contribution to every aspect of our society – working with the elderly, supporting young people and reaching out to those in need.”
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of extraordinary volunteers who keep Body & Soul ticking. Your dedication, expertise, energy and positivity keeps Body & Soul inspired. In our 16th year there has been much to celebrate; the work of Body & Soul has been recognised in many different ways and this award is no exception.
