Established in 1996, Body & Soul is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of children, teens and parents in the UK who are affected by HIV, through supporting their physical, mental and emotional health and well-being. It’s a vital lifeline for an isolated and often forgotten group of people who are struggling to live with the direct and indirect effects of the virus. Body & Soul has developed a unique range of internships that offer graduates an excellent opportunity to gain experience working in a frontline charity.

Body & Soul is pleased to announce that the below vacancies for internships:

Internship in Frontline Adult Support Work in the HIV sector – ROLLING APPLICATION PROCESS

This internship is aimed at providing key skills and direct experience in casework and support & advocacy. Based within the Adult Service, you would have the chance to work in an experienced multi-disciplinary team delivering what is regarded as a unique and exceptional service.

We are looking for interns who…

Role Description

  • Assisting with research, planning and liaison in preparation for Adult Service Evenings.
  • Providing telephone support to Body & Soul Adult Members
  • Providing administrative support to the Adult Programme
  • Providing advocacy and casework on behalf of adult members, including hardship applications, liaising with social services, and letters of support.
  • Giving 1:1 support to Body & Soul adult members.
  • Facilitating small group sessions.
  • Potential for involvement in specific areas of the Adult Programme depending on interests.

 

Internship as Case Worker in the HIV sector – DEADLINE 13th AUGUST 2013

We are looking for interns who…

  • Are committed and enthusiastic with a relevant related area of study.
  • Are looking to gain work experience in the field of HIV/advocacy/case work.
  • Are willing to take on responsibility in this innovative charity.
  • Are passionate about Body & Soul’s aims

Role Description:

  • Providing advocacy and casework on behalf of adult members, including hardship applications, liaising with social services, and letters of support.
  • Giving 1:1 support to Body & Soul adult members.
  • Contacting the council and different social services.
  • Liaising with home office in regards to applications for leave to remain and naturalization.
  • Managing a team of volunteers for case work appointments.
  • Working closely with staff working in the charity sector.

 

Internship in Fundraising – DEADLINE 17th AUGUST 2013

Are you confident, self-motivated and imaginative? If yes, we are looking for you to join our Fundraising & Partnerships team at Body & Soul.

We are currently looking for an individual with the initiative and drive to take Body & Soul’s fundraising to the next level through increasing donations from challenge events, individual givers, payroll, foundations, and university fundraising.

As a smaller charity, Body & Soul can provide fantastic experience for people interested in forging a career in the charity sector. You will have the opportunity to lead and manage projects, to take on responsibility and develop the role in line with your own interests. With support and under supervision, you will be responsible for:

  • writing and managing small grant applications
  • advancing community events and corporate relationships
  • administering the departmental database, processing and acknowledging donations
  • maintaining up-to-date donor records
  • sourcing gifts in kind
  • internet-based research into donors

We are looking for an intern who is:

  • Committed and enthusiastic
  • Passionate about Body & Soul’s aims
  • Articulate, with a strong attention to detail
  • Versatile when communicating with people on all levels, from potential funders, to members of the charity.
  • A self-starter who is willing to take on responsibility in this innovative charity

We ask interns to commit to coming in for a minimum of three days per week for three months. This gives you the opportunity to see fundraising events and applications through from start to finish and ensures you have concrete achievements to add to your CV at the end of your placement.

How to apply

Body & Soul internships are dynamic and exciting, providing the opportunity to become involved in areas of the charity which would normally require greater experience. We also run weekly Internship Skill and Development classes that give you the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the workings of the third sector. The internships are 3 days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday are essential, 3rd day is flexible) and can vary in length from 3 -6 months.  Please only apply if you can commit to 3 days a week for at least 3 months.  Applications close Monday the 12th of August and the successful applicant will start Monday the 19th of August.
