We’re thrilled to announce that Body & Soul is the latest winner of the Big Society Award, 2013.
Established by the Prime Minister in November 2010, the awards recognise individuals and organisations across the UK whose work or activities contribute significantly to the larger society.
The award has been given in recognition of Body & Soul’s outstanding contribution to community – awarded to organisations that enable communities to drive change and identify solutions themselves, and those that inspire others to contribute to their community. We’re so proud that our work supporting vulnerable and isolated children and families living with HIV in this country, and the huge team of dedicated and talented volunteers who allow us to continue has been recognised in this way.
Body & Soul’s director Emma said “living with HIV can be exceptionally isolating. Body & Soul has nurtured a resilient community where members can inspire and support each other in a safe, confidential space, where they can share their hopes and anxieties, triumphs and challenges. A key element of Body & Soul’s philosophy is participation. We would like to dedicate this award to all the volunteers who make it possible for us to continue. The impact of their skills and expertise and their commitment to social change is at the very heart of Body & Soul. Their impact transforms lives”
Earlier this week we blogged about the benefits of bringing together volunteers from the local community to promote awareness and social change through action. In a week where over 150 volunteers from companies across the capital have come through our doors to give their time and where over 80 regular volunteers have continued their commitment to Body & Soul and our community, we’re proud to celebrate our culture of involvement, action and change.
