Imagine researching and applying for your first charity internship and actually getting the position advertised! I always wanted to work within a charity organisation either as a volunteer or a career path to explore. Graduating with a fashion degree, most people were puzzled when I decided to take the leap of faith and try something new. One of my favourite quote states.
”If you want something you’ve never had. You must be willing to do something you’ve never done”- Thomas Jefferson.
I titled this blog post the Body and Soul experience, why? Because I believe, it’s one experience that I will cherish and be grateful for. If you were to ask how would you describe Body and Soul in two words? I will say “hidden gem” within the charity sector. Based in Islington, Body and Soul is home to some of the bravest people I have come across, although life has been challenging in ways unimaginable, written on their chest in bold is S a sign every superhero needs.
My time as a fundraiser intern has developed my knowledge of fundraising and provided transferable skills essential for employment. Whether in writing, communication or analysing information, since interning I feel more confident in handling various tasks. I once was told by a volunteer at B&S, “Once you are involved with B&S and have built a level of relationship, there is no going back”. Dare I say that statement was spot on; although my internship is over I plan to support service evenings and look forward in supporting other department programs in the coming months.
During my internship some of the daily task included researching suitable grants, contacting local business and compiling useful information from new reports, assisting the head of fundraising with community events. My time at Body and Soul has been great and an experience that I would encourage anyone interested in working within the charity sector to consider Body and Soul internship program.
