Many Teen Spirit members want to use their creativity to think about the issues that affect their lives. Through song writing, poetry, film and spoken word we have developed projects that not only allow members to do this, but provide the opportunity to develop skills and experience that can be utilised outside of Teen Spirit. Here are a few examples to give you a taste:
This popular music skills group introduces the basics of a range of instruments including electric, acoustic and bass guitars, keyboards and drums. The project often runs an informal ‘jam session’ as well as more focussed teaching and song writing sessions. Teen Spirit musicians have performed live at a number of events.
Teen Spirit is lucky to benefit from the expert input of professional photographers who offer exciting projects where you can learn how to set up a shoot and develop basic photographic techniques and digital darkroom skills.
Film making has always had a place at Teen Spirit. Whether it’s the opportunity to work with volunteers from the film industry or the chance to get in the studio to learn the basics of editing, there is always a project on the go with Teen Spirit members at the centre.
Fashion has a great appeal with Teen Spirit members. Fashion Projects are a great chance to really get ‘hands on’ creatively! Activities take a number of formats, including: projects for members to create fashion labels and collections; courses teaching a range of design and creative skills; clothes recycling and customisation workshops; T-shirt design and much more.
A Teen Spirit fashion show is always on the calendar of events to showcase the latest creations.
Like many other programmes, we always aim to bring in professionals from the industry to add their expertise and provide advice for anyone who wants to find a way into the fashion world.
